อนุสรณ์สถานวีรชนคนโคราช

อนุสรณ์สถานวีรชนคนโคราช   อนุสรณ์สถานแห่งนี้สร้างขึ้นเมื่อปีพุทธศักราช 2548 เพื่อเชิดชูวีรกรรมท้าวสุรนารี (คุณหญิงโม)  และวีรชนคนโคราช ที่ได้ช่วยกันต่อสู้ข้าศึกศัตรูที่มารุกรานจนได้ชัยชนะเมื่อปีพุทธศักราช 2369 “  ดังนั้นพวกเราจึงได้มาชื่นชมอนุสรณ์สถานแห่งนี้หลังการสร้างถึง 4 ปีทีเดียว  ก็อดที่จะนำภาพมาให้ได้ร่วมชื่นชมกันไม่ได้  ท่านใดที่มีโอกาสแวะมาโคราช ไหว้ท่านท้าวสุรนารีแล้ว ก็อย่าลืมแวะมาสัมผัสบรรยากาศบริเวณลานย่าโมและอนุสรณ์สถานวีรชนคนโคราชที่อยู่ติดกันด้วย บริเวณลานย่าโม แห่งนี้  จะใช้เป็นลานจัดกิจกรรมต่าง ๆ อยู่เป็นประจำของชาวโคราช ดังนั้นเมื่อท่านแวะมาก็จะได้สัมผัสกับชาวโคราชได้มากขึ้น  มีกิจกรรมมากมายหลายแบบในบริเวณนี้  เป็นที่พักผ่อนยามเย็นและยามค่ำคืนของชาวโคราช  บริเวณลานย่าโมนี้ ในสมัยก่อนเป็นบริเวณสวนไม้ดอกไม้ประดับที่เรียกว่า สวนรัก และ ตลาดโต้รุ่ง ของชาวโคราช  ตลาดโต้รุ่งแห่งนี้ก็เป็นจุดนัดพบ ที่แวะมาหาของรับประทานกัน  มีของอร่อย ๆ ให้เลือกชิมมากมาย รวมทั้งมีของฝากจากโคราชอันหลากหลาย ให้เลือกซื้อติดมือกลับไปอีกด้วย 

เมื่อท่านได้ไปเมืองโคราช ถ้าไม่ได้แวะไปสักการะอนุสาวรีย์คุณย่าโม ก็เหมือนท่านยังไปไม่ถึงดคราช และต่อจากนี้เมื่อท่านได้สักการะคุณย่าโมแล้ว เดินผ่านสวนสุรนารีหรือ สวนรักไปอีกประมาณ 100 เมตร ข้ามถนนไปทางสวนอนุสาวรีย์สถานท้าวสุรนารี จะเห็นอนุสาวรีย์ชนคนโคราช เป็นรูปปั้นบรรพบุรุษของชาวโคราช หลายท่านที่กำลังตั้งท่าเพื่อต่อสู้กับศัตรูผู้รุกราน ตั้งอยู่กลางสวนน้ำพุล้อมรอบ สังเกตทางด้านขวาติดกัน จะเป็นอาคารป้อมปราการสีขาวขนาดใหญ่ อาคารนี้คืออาคารแสดง แสง สี เสียง ท้าวสุรนารี จะมีเรื่องราวที่แสดงให้เห็นเป็นตอนเริ่มจากวิถีชีวิตของชาวเมืองโคราชในสมัยอดีต ไปจนถึงการต่อสู้เพื่อรักษาผืนแผ่นดินไทย วีรกรรมอันหาญกล้าของท้าวสุรนารีและบรรพบุรุษขแงชาวโคราช

The scene refers clearly to Korat people's fight for freedom against the Lao army, under Thao Suranaree's leadership, in 1826. Thao Suranaree herself is supposedly reproduced in the centre of the group in a leading and inspired attitude. The other characters look like improvised warriors, mostly females, dressed like farmers and armed with makeshift weapons. The simple attires and weapons, as well as the clear predominance of female characters (14 in total, against only 3 males), emphasizes the civilian character of this improvised army. The abandoned cart is there to prove that the battle is real and not just a game.

Half of the fighters are reproduced in a defensive pose, surrounding their leader whose back is protected also by the cart. The other half are reproduced in an attacking pose, as if advancing towards an invisible enemy. All have a resolute, aggressive, even ferocious attitude, expressed both in their poses and in their grimaces. We tried to capture this strong feeling in some of the pictures below.

The monument was commissioned by Korat's municipality as part of the central square renovation project in the 1990's. According to information we were able to collect, it was inaugurated in 1992. It is made of bronze and silver. The author is a renowned local artist: National Artist Prof. Tavee Rutchaneekon ( อ. ทวี รัชนีกร ). Here is an official page about him (in Thai).
